What you will be doing.
There are a variety of activities to work on. Priorities include: picking up trash and cigarette butts, clearing any blocked storm drains, removing stickers and graffiti, washing the garbage cans, sweeping, and power washing.
What to bring.
If possible, please bring your own gloves, deck brushes, buckets, and brooms! We will provide trash bags, grabbers, limited supply of gloves, cleaning solutions, etc!
Where you will be working.
When you check in, you will be assigned a section of Downtown between Douglas and Lane Avenue. Feel free to let our registration volunteers know if you have a preference and they will do their best to accommodate. Larger groups may be asked to split up to make sure the whole area gets the attention it needs. After you check in and grab some nourishment, check in with your Team Leaders for direction.
Who will provide direction or answer questions.
Team Leaders will be wearing orange vests (when you check-in you will be told where to find your team leaders). Your team leaders will have some tools available, provide direction about priorities and answer any questions. Your team leader will tell you where to leave filled garbage bags (please do not bring garbage back to the check in area). Additionally, they will have some basic first aid supplies if you need them.
Dealing with Difficult People.
While we hope this doesn’t happen, there may be a few people who disagree with our efforts to clean up Downtown Roseburg. If anyone approaches you while removing posters, graffiti, or stickers during the clean up, please tell them that you are a volunteer and let them know they should speak to your team leader. Please do not argue or engage! You are doing great work on behalf of our community.
What Not to Pick Up.
Prohibited materials include: hazardous waste materials & all construction, remodeling or demolition materials.
Stay for the tacos! Come back to the park to get your taco token!
